Fourteen Novembers
Fourteen Novembers is the music side of SugarPixel. We make this music for people who live with diabetes. Songs you can actually relate to, written by people who get it. The music started in the places real diabetes life happens. The 3 a.m. alarm. The juice box in the dark. The good days that feel like a win and the ones you just get through. Some are funny. Some sit close to the bone. All of them sound like the people who live this every day.
This music is free for everyone. You can stream/download the songs below or stream from your favorite music service.
The Adventure Part I
We started Fourteen Novembers as a fun project to make a country album for a diabetes conference with a Wild West theme. But The Brave and the Bright album was just the beginning.
Next comes The Adventure Part I, and the first single, Clark Kent.

Somebody's mom called me last night
Voice shaky
Will we be alright?
I didn't have a perfect thing to say
So I just stayed on the line with her all day
Ten years of numbers
Ten years of learning
Some things get easier, some days keep churning
But I've got people now who get the load
And that's what makes it not so heavy on my own
People ask me how I do this every day
Like there's a secret, like there's a way
Truth is I don't do it on my own
I've just got more help now than I've ever known
This is the adventure
No one signs up for
But nobody said you're walking it alone anymore
Every hard question finds somebody who's been through
I show up for them, they show up for me too
A kid in Ohio's asking his first hard question
A mom in Spain's finding her way, her direction
They don't have to carry all of it themselves
There's a whole wide world of us reaching out to help
People ask me how I do this every day
Like there's a secret, like there's a way
Truth is I don't do it on my own
I've just got more help now than I've ever known
This is the adventure
No one signs up for
But nobody said you're walking it alone anymore
Every hard question finds somebody who's been through
I show up for them, they show up for me too
I used to think I had to know it all
Turns out that was never the call
The answer isn't one I found alone
It's every hand that's ever pulled me home
This is the adventure
No one signs up for
But nobody said you're walking it alone anymore
Every hard question finds somebody who's been there
And nobody said you're doing it alone anywhere
This is the adventure
No one signs up for
But nobody said you're walking it alone anymore
Every hard question finds somebody who's been through
I show up for them, they show up for me too
This is the adventure
Showing up for you
This is the adventure
Carrying you through
Saw the flash on your arm
Same little site as mine
You caught me looking
I caught you looking back
Nobody said a word
But we both knew
It's the quiet kind of knowing
No story left to tell
Some things you just feel
Hey, you're my people
Never met you, but I know you
Same nights, same truths
Hey, you're my people
Strangers till we knew
I've got you, you've got me too
Saw a mom in the aisle
Checking her kid's number twice
Didn't need to ask her a thing
Didn't need to speak at all
Just a glance and a nod to say
I'll be right here for you
It's the quiet kind of knowing
No story left to tell
It's the look that says I see you
That skips right past hello
Some things you just feel
Hey, you're my people
Never met you, but I know you
Same nights, same truths
Hey, you're my people
Strangers till we knew
I've got you, you've got me too
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
Hey, you're my people
Never met you, but I know you
Same nights, same truths
Hey, you're my people
Strangers till we knew
I've got you, you've got me too
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
You're my people
You're my people
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
You're my people
He walks through the hall just like anyone else
Quiet in the corner, keeping things to himself
Nobody sees it
Only Lois knows
Under the plain shirt a hero grows
It's not the cape that makes the man
It's who he's been since he began
Watch him now, watch him change
Right before your eyes
Take off the glasses, put on the cape
He was Superman the whole time, no debate
You didn't need the sky to fall
To see he had it in him all along
Just like Clark Kent
Every kid's got a cape they haven't worn yet
She's got a pump strapped on her arm
Nobody else can see the alarm
But when it beeps she's already flying
Steady hands, there's no denying
It's not the mask that makes her strong
It's the fight she's been in all along
Watch her now, watch her rise
Right before your eyes
Take off the glasses, put on the cape
She was Superman the whole time, no debate
You didn't need the sky to fall
To see she had it in her all along
Just like Clark Kent
Every kid's got a cape they haven't worn yet
Maybe the secret was never the suit
Maybe it's something closer to the truth
Every day, in a hundred small ways
The hero shows up and stays
Take off the glasses, put on the cape
You were Superman the whole time, no debate
You didn't need the sky to fall
To see you had it inside all along
Just like Clark Kent
Every kid's got a cape they haven't worn yet
Under the plain shirt a hero grows
Nobody sees it, but now you know
Found myself arguing with the tv screen
Accused the mirror of being extra mean
Texted"We need to talk" to my mom
Number spiked, I'm not calm
I just told the dog he ruined my life
Yelled at the empty room about a dirty knife
Cried about a too far parking spot
Number said I clearly was not
Not myself, I'm just kind of unhinged
Screamed because the door bell dinged
Didn't mean to blow my steam
Blame it on the triple three
I'm sorry for what I said when my blood sugar was high
Told you your face was doing something weird
Didn't know why
It wasn't me
It was the number, I swear
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I don't remember half of that, honestly
Started a war over a lumpy couch cushion
Gave a ranting TED talk on nutrition
Called my father, hung up twice
Screamed a little at some rice
Debated a child about the man in the moon
Lost my patience with a spoon
Told the thermostat he better pick a lane
Cried a little in the rain
Not myself, Kind of by a lot
Fought the microwave and then forgot
Didn't mean to raise my voice
At that kid's toy making noise
I'm sorry for what I said when my blood sugar was high
Told you your face was doing something weird
Didn't know why
I'm sorry for what I did when my blood sugar was flyin
I probably was - Ok, definitely was
Tryin' to make you cry
It wasn't me
It was the number, I swear
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I don't remember half of that, honestly
Sugar's flooding through my brain
Static where the words remain
Not an out, just what is true
Still on me to make it through
I'm sorry for what I said when my blood sugar was high
Told you your face was doing something weird
Didn't know why
I'm sorry for what I did when my blood sugar was flyin
I probably was - Ok, definitely was
Tryin' to make you cry
It wasn't me
It was the number, I swear
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I don't remember half of that, honestly
I'm sorry for what I said when my blood sugar was high
I called you basic
That was a lie
I'm sorry for what I did when my blood sugar was flyin
I called you dramatic
And wasn't even tryin
It wasn't me
It was the number, I swear
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
It wasn't me
Packed my bag with all my supplies and my heart
Three hundred sixty four days feeling worlds apart
But I know come the morning, I'll walk through those doors
And feel like I'm home in a way I've never been before
It's not the pool, it's not the sun
It's not the color of my band
It's every face that feels like home
I'm going back to Orlando
Back to the ones who just get it
All year long I'm counting the days
Till I'm going back
Going back to Orlando
Back where I'm never the only one
Going back to where I belong
Saw you last July in the hallway, out of breath
Said we'd talk soon, then a year went by too fast
But the second that I see you, it all comes rushing back
Like no time ever happened, like we're right where we're at
Traded texts all winter just to get us through
Sent a photo of my numbers and you sent me yours too
Now we're standing in the lobby like we never said goodbye
Same old joke, same old laugh, same look in your eye
It's not the pool, it's not the sun
It's not the color of my band
It's every face that feels like home
I'm going back to Orlando
Back to the ones who just get it
All year long I'm counting the days
Till I'm going back
Going back to Orlando
Back where I'm never the only one
Going back to where I belong
Yeah, three sixty five and I'm still holding on
Same crew, same faces, man, it's been too long
From the hallway hugs to the late night talks
Same story different year, but we still show up
Every phone alarm, every low, every high
Every day we live is a day we don't gotta explain why
So when that plane lands and I step off that jet
This the one place on earth where I never gotta forget
Where I'm from, who I am, what I carry every day
Three sixty five, then we're back, then it's family, and we say
I'm going back to Orlando
Back to the ones who just get it
All year long I'm counting the days
Till I'm going back
I'm going back to Orlando
Back to the ones who just get it
All year long I'm counting the days
Till I'm going back
Going back to Orlando
Back where I'm never the only one
Going back to where I belong
Got a spreadsheet for the end of the world
Insulin counted, vials lined up by date
A thousand juice boxes, a case of glucose tabs
Sensors stacked up, boxes never opened
You think I'm crazy, watching all those shows
I call it planning, you can call it what you want
I've got a map with three red circles on it
Pharmacy, pharmacy, and one more just in case
When the power's finally gone
My pump's still got a fight
Battery banks and syringes packed
I'll be up and running by midnight
I know which pharmacy I'm hitting first
Straight to the back where they keep it cold
I've got my exit routes memorized
For the end of the world
Call me paranoid, call me prepared
Either way, I'll be the one who's fine
While you're out there fighting for a candle
I'll be dosing right on time
Duct tape, fishing line, a hand-crank radio
Sharps container tucked behind the shoebox
I know the difference between a fifteen and a felt-low
And which snacks won't melt when the fridge stops
My neighbor thinks it's just a little hobby
Little does he know he's on my list
When the sugar runs out and no one's coming
I'll be kicking down his door, taking what I missed
When the power's finally gone
My pump's still got a fight
When the apocalypse has come
I'll be up and running by midnight
I know which pharmacy I'm hitting first
Straight to the back where they keep it cold
I've got my exit routes memorized
For the end of the world
Call me paranoid, call me prepared
Either way, I'll be the one who's fine
While you're out there fighting for a candle
I'll be dosing right on time
Maybe it's the world, maybe it's just me
Counting carbs when nothing's guaranteed
But there's something kind of funny, something kind of sweet
About a girl who's ready for the worst thing
Underneath the humor, there's a truth
I've done the math, I've made the plan
No matter what the world throws at me
I already know I'll be okay
I know which pharmacy I'm knocking off
Straight to the back where they keep it cold
I've got my exit routes memorized
For the end of the world
Call me paranoid, call me prepared
Either way, I'll be the one who's fine
While you're out there fighting for a candle
I'll be dosing right on time
For the end of the world
I'll be laughing when it's here
For the end of the world
Guess who's the only one still standing
I was a storm, you didn't run
Glass on the floor, you swept it up
Didn't ask why, didn't need a reason
Just stayed close when it got rough
Said I'm fine, when I was breaking
You saw through it, didn't say a word
Pulled me in, while I was shaking
Held the silence till it wasn't blurred
Everyone else looked away
But you stood right where you stayed
You didn't flinch
Not once, not ever
When the walls came down
You just held it together
I was a fire, you were the fighter
You didn't flinch
When I needed you now
And I needed you now
Every low, I've weathered out
Every high, that stole the day
You checked the numbers, calmed my doubt
Loved me louder anyway
Everyone else looked away
But you stood right where you stayed
You didn't flinch
Not once, not ever
When the walls came down
You just held it together
I was a fire, you were the fighter
You didn't flinch
When I needed you now
Maybe love isn't loud
It's the quiet in the crash
It's you still standing there
After everything I asked
Maybe love isn't grand
It's just a steady hand
You didn't flinch
Not once, not ever
When the walls came down
You just held it together
I was a fire, you were the fighter
You didn't flinch
When I needed you now
You didn't flinch
You never flinch
Still here
Still you
Look at me, I'm standing here, nothing seems wrong
Same face, same smile, I've been faking it long
But under my sleeve there's a war going on
A sensor, a number, a fight from dusk to dawn
You see the version I let you see
Not the Three a.m. shaking, not the version that's me
I built these walls out of "I'm fine" and "All good"
Because nobody sees what they don't think they should
Invisible
Carrying more than you can see
Invisible
Smiling through the storm in me
But I'm still here
I'm still fighting
I'm still whole
Even when it stays untold
Every high and every low, I hide it well
Perform normal while I'm living in a shell
Nobody claps for the math I do all day
Nobody sees the price I pay
I'm not looking for a medal or a crowd
I just want a second where I don't have to be proud
Where I can say it's hard without the fear
That saying it out loud might make it worse to hear
Invisible
Carrying more than you can see
Invisible
Smiling through the storm in me
But I'm still here
I'm still fighting
I'm still whole
Even when it stays untold
There were days I wanted someone just to ask
Not for pity, just to see behind the mask
But I learned the strength was never in being seen
It was in the fight nobody else was in
I see you now, even if I couldn't before
You don't have to hide it, you don't have to keep score
What's invisible to eyes is still written on your heart
You were never really invisible at all
So let it show, let it show
Let it rise till it overflows
Let it climb until the silence
Has nowhere left to go
This is what invisible looks like now
This is what invisible sounds like now
Invisible
No, you see me clear
Invisible
Every silent fight, every year
You're still here
You're still fighting
You're still whole
You were never really alone
Woke up to a different light
Something in the air today
Every number in its rhythm
Like the sky just cleared the way
I didn't chase it, didn't force it
Just showed up and let it be
And maybe that's the whole secret
Some days just believe in me
This is the color breaking through
Every one hundred I fought to find
Not a fluke, not out of nowhere
This one's mine, this one's mine
I'm not asking why it happened
I'm just gonna let it shine
'Cause the magic's always waiting
I just had to believe
These steady hands have built this
Quiet days that no one knew
I learned and earned it all
Now the work is breaking through
Every single hour today is
Turning into something new
Something steady, something true
I didn't chase it, didn't force it
Just showed up and let it be
And maybe that's the whole secret
Some days just believe in me
This is the color breaking through
Every one hundred I fought to find
Not a fluke, not out of nowhere
This one's mine, this one's mine
I'm not asking why it happened
I'm just gonna let it shine
'Cause the magic's always waiting
I just had to believe
Let the whole world see
Let the whole world know
Nothing crazy here
Just how far I've come to grow
This is earned, not luck
This is mine to keep
Every quiet day I held on
Led me here to believe
This is the color breaking through
Every one hundred I fought to find
Not a fluke, not out of nowhere
This one's mine, this one's mine
I'm not asking why it happened
I'm just gonna let it shine
'Cause the magic's always waiting
I just had to believe
Ten more years, that's what they said
Another study stuck in someone's head
So we skipped the line
Opened a laptop late at night
Read every thread till it made sense
Built the thing we couldn't wait for
No committee, no green light
No one signed off on this fight
Just someone's code we passed around
Faster than the system slowed us down
We are not waiting
Not for the clearance
Not for the sign-off
Not for the wait
We are not waiting
We did it ourselves
No one else was going to
We didn't wait
Just a dad wondering why
It doesn't exist yet
No idea if it ever would
So he started building
Made the tool himself instead
No boardroom, no approval
No name on the door
Just people tired of asking for more
No committee, no green light
No one signed off on this fight
Just someone's idea we passed around
Faster than the system slowed us down
We are not waiting
Not for the clearance
Not for the sign-off
Not for the wait
We are not waiting
We did it ourselves
No one else was going to
We didn't wait
Somewhere there's a meeting
Still going on
Somewhere there's a form
Still not signed
We already built it
Already used it
Already saved lives
While they take their time
We are not waiting
Not for the clearance
Not for the sign-off
Not for the wait
We are not waiting
We'll build it ourselves
No time to lose
We're not gonna wait
We are not waiting
We are not waiting
We are not waiting
We never were
You were fourteen when the doctor said my name
Sitting in the corner, no one saved you a seat
Nobody asked how you were doing
Everyone was learning how to count and repeat
You watched me learn the numbers, watched me learn the shots
You watched me learn a language you were never taught
You never got to just be a kid that year, either
You got quiet, you got careful, you got scared
You can be scared, too
Nobody said that part out loud
You held my hand in that hospital room
But nobody held yours, so I'm holding it now
You can be scared, too
You don't have to be the strong one every time
I still love you, brother
Even when you're scared, too
You checked on me before you checked on you
Noticed everything and said none of it out loud
You grew up faster than the rest of them
Carrying something only you and I knew about
And maybe some nights you were angry
And maybe some nights you cried alone
That doesn't make you a bad brother
It makes you human, it makes you known
You never got to just be a kid that year, either
You got quiet, you got careful, you got scared
You can be scared, too
Nobody said that part out loud
You held my hand in that hospital room
But nobody held yours, so I'm holding it now
You can be scared, too
You don't have to be the strong one every time
I still love you, brother
Even when you're scared, too
Let it out
Let it show
You've been carrying this a long time
Nobody told you
You were allowed to fall apart
So I'm telling you now
We can be scared together, too
You can fall apart with me
You held my hand in every hospital room
Now let's hold each other's heart
You can be scared, too
I'm saying that part out loud now
There's nothing wrong with those feelings
You can be scared, too
We can walk this road together
We can hold each other's hand through it all
And I'll be scared with you
I still love you, brother
Even when you're scared, too
I hear you come in soft at night
Just a little creak, just a little light
You check the number, then you go
Back to bed, but I already know
I don't have to open my eyes
I don't have to wonder why
I just feel it, calm and clear
You're on the other side of the wall
Close enough to hear me if I call
I sleep so easy, I sleep so deep
Because I know you're keeping watch over me
Just a little wall between us, nothing more
You're always there, right outside my door
Some nights I hear your footsteps pause
Right before you turn the handle, just because
You never wake me, never make a sound
But somehow I still know you're around
I don't have to open my eyes
I don't have to wonder why
I just feel it, calm and clear
You're on the other side of the wall
Close enough to hear me if I call
I sleep so easy, I sleep so deep
Because I know you're keeping watch over me
Just a little wall between us, nothing more
You're always there, right outside my door
One day I'll be the one who checks
One day I'll learn to keep the watch myself
But right now I just get to be
The one who's sleeping peacefully
You're on the other side of the wall
Close enough to hear me if I call
I sleep so easy, I sleep so deep
Because I know you're keeping watch over me
Just that little wall between us, nothing more
You're always there, right outside my door
Right outside my door
You're always there
Right outside my door
They handed me a number
Without even a guide
A needle and a nighttime
A story I won't hide
They said I'd lost the easy years
The ones that should've stayed
But no one saw the quiet kid
Becoming unafraid
And every alarm in the dark
Every climb, every fall
I was building something
They couldn't see at all
This cannot stop me
This won't slow me down
This can't undo me
I am unbreakable now
With the high and the low
In my blood, in my bones
I was braver than the childhood
They thought I wouldn't know
They mourned a life they pictured
A path I never walked
But I was somewhere stronger
In a language they don't talk
The ones who saw a childhood loss
Never saw me rise
Because I carried every battle
Behind a calm disguise
And every alarm in the dark
every climb, every fall
I was building something
they couldn't see at all
This cannot stop me
This won't slow me down
This can't undo me
I am unbreakable now
With the high and the low
In my blood, in my bones
I was braver than the childhood
They mourned so long ago
You can grieve the kid you thought I'd be
Go on, lay those flowers down
But I was never gone
I was here, standing my ground
I did everything you dreamed for me
And more you'll never see
I didn't miss my childhood
I just became the woman you now see
This cannot stop me
This won't slow me down
This can't undo me
I am unshakeable, unbreakable
With the high and the low
In my blood, in my bones
I am braver than the childhood
They said I wouldn't know
I am unbreakable now
Woke up shaky, room spinning slow
Something's wrong but I don't know
Dragging footsteps down the hall
Something's coming for it all
I can feel it, cold and mean
Something rotten, something lean
Reaching for the thing I need
Zombies ate my pancreas
Now I run on duct tape and grit
Shuffling through the apocalypse
With a pump clipped to my hip
They took the thing I can't replace
So I built one in its place
Zombies ate my pancreas
But they didn't get the best of me
Sirens singing in the street
Undead shuffling to the beat
I've got sensors, I've got gear
Survival looks a little weird
I can feel it, cold and mean
Something rotten, something lean
Reaching for the thing I need
Zombies ate my pancreas
Now I run on duct tape and grit
Shuffling through the apocalypse
With a pump clipped to my hip
They took the thing I can't replace
So I built one in its place
Zombies ate my pancreas
But they didn't get the best of me
They can chase me through the dark
Leave their teeth marks, leave their scars
Doesn't matter what they take
I'm still standing, wide awake
Zombies ate my pancreas
Now I run on duct tape and grit
Shuffling through the apocalypse
With a pump clipped to my hip
They took the thing I can't replace
So I built one in its place
Zombies ate my pancreas
Still alive, still breathing, still me
Woke up this morning with a sensor on my arm
Got a number on my wrist keeping me from harm
No more finger pricks, no more guessing games
My sugar's got a screen and it's calling out my name
Didn't get a vote, didn't get a say
Woke up assimilated and it's honestly okay
I'm a cyborg, baby, running on a battery
Being fully optimized feels like flattery
Pump on my hip doing all the heavy lifting
Beep boop, I'm covered, no more second-guessing
Cyborg, baby, wired up just right
I traded my old routine for a status light
Closed loop system doing math while I sleep
Talks to my phone, makes the promises it keeps
I used to carry snacks like a squirrel in the fall
Now the collective's got my back, best upgrade of them all
Didn't get a vote, didn't get a say
Woke up assimilated and it's honestly okay
I'm a cyborg, baby, running on a battery
Being fully optimized feels like flattery
Pump on my hip doing all the heavy lifting
Beep boop, I'm covered, no more second-guessing
Cyborg, baby, wired up just right
I traded my old routine for a status light
Insulin - delivered
Glucose - in range
Anxiety - overridden
You're welcome
I'm a cyborg, baby, running on a battery
Being fully optimized feels like flattery
Pump on my hip doing all the heavy lifting
Beep boop, I'm covered, no more second-guessing
Cyborg, baby, wired up just right
I traded my old routine for a status light
Fourteen Novembers
One, two, three
Fourteen Novembers, we been building this sound
Songs about the highs and lows, we put it down
Not here to sugarcoat it, we tell it real
Every track's a story about how you feel
Started in the dark, found the light along the way
Turned the hard days into something we could say
Every number, every needle, every scar we own
Wrote it into music so nobody feels alone
Turn up the lights, this is the night
Hope in the dark, humor in the fight
We see you, we are you, that's the deal
This is honest, this is real
Every song a piece of what we've lived
Every laugh, every low, everything we give
This is the story, this is the sound
Still Counting Novembers
Welcome to the crowd
Every single hard day we turned it into song
Every year that passed, we carried on, made it strong
Not asking for pity, not begging for space
Just adding a year onto the count we chase
Some days are heavy and some of the days are light
Some days you laugh, some of the days you still fight
But we celebrate every single day around here
This is the sound of another year
Turn up the lights, this is the night
Hope in the dark, humor in the fight
We see you, we are you, that's the deal
This is honest, this is real
Every song a piece of what we've lived
Every laugh, every low, everything we give
This is the story, this is the sound
Still Counting Novembers
Welcome to the crowd
For every hand that's shaking
Every heart that's tired
For every quiet warrior, we see the fire
This one's for the ones still finding their way
This one's for the ones who fight every day
Turn up the lights, this is the night
Hope in the dark, humor in the fight
We see you, we are you, that's the deal
This is honest, this is real
Every song a piece of what we've lived
Every laugh, every low, everything we give
This is the story, this is the sound
Still Counting Novembers
What's your count?
Fourteen Novembers
What's your count?
You count the carbs at breakfast, watch the numbers on the screen
Ride the highs and ride the lows, and all the in-between
You figured you were carryin’ this heavy on your own
Drinking juice there in the quiet made you feel so all alone
You already had it, the strength was always you
You already had it. Now share with those who need it too
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
Friend, you already had it
He always had a spark inside and never knew the why
She always held the kind of brave that learns to close her eyes and fly
A compass deep inside, been pointin’ home all the while
Turns out the missing piece of everything was a piece of you yourself
You already had it. Your spark is the piece we need.
You already had it. Now share it with your crew for life
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
Friend, you already had it
So when the bridge is fadin’ and there’s one light left to spend
Don’t go it all alone, no — call on your new friends
“Don’t look at the gap,” she said, “you just look at me
Now jump — I’ve got you” — and that’s all you’ll ever need
You already had it, the strength was always you
You already had it before you found your crew for life
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
We’ll be your crew forever — we already had it
Yeah, all along
We'll be your crew forever, we already had it
Woke up late, the coffee’s cold
I just stepped on a pen needle
Stumbled out into the hall
And the door attacked my pump again
Am I high again?
My arm smells like insulin
Same old plot twist
Same old trend
Am I high again?
No, I’m low again
Give me three tabs
We can try again
Truck on the highway, sun hangin’ low
Juicebox empties from the night before
Empty little boxes from a long string of lows
Pulled off the road, treatin’ one more
Am I high again?
SugarPixel glowin’ in the den
Same old plot twist
Same old trend
Am I high again?
No, I’m low again
Give me three tabs
We can try again
Tired of the high, tired of the low
Tired of this road I’m on
So I press play and let it ride
Scott talkin’ me through the long haul
Bolus tips and Pro Tips spinnin’
Mile marker after mile
Learnin’ somethin’ every episode
And I’m rollin’ with a half a smile
Am I high again?
My arm smells like insulin
Same old plot twist
Same old trend
Am I high again?
No, I’m low again
Press play on the Juicebox
Let Scott talk me down again
Am I high again?
My arm smells like insulin
Same old plot twist
Same old trend
Am I high again?
No, I’m low again
Press play on the Juicebox
Let Scott talk me down again
Woke up and the number’s smiling
Right in range like it belongs
No alarm to start the morning
Just the radio and a song
SugarPixel’s keeping quiet
Steady line across the screen
First time in a country minute
That the trail ahead looks clean
No math before my coffee
No correction, no repair
Just a flat and pretty highway
And a little mountain air
I caught a unicorn today
A hundred sittin’ pretty on the screen
Nothing buzzing, nothing dropping
Cleanest line I’ve ever seen
I caught a unicorn today
Gonna ride it while it’s here
‘Cause I know this kind of magic
Don’t come ’round but once a year
Got the Juicebox podcast playing
Scott and somebody who knows
Telling stories like a campfire
While the open country rolls
And for once I’m just a listener
Not a soldier in the fight
Pump’s behaving, body’s easy
And the reading’s dialed in right
No shaky hands by lunchtime
No ghost low in the night
Just a saddle and a sunset
And a number sitting right
I caught a unicorn today
A hundred sittin’ pretty on the screen
Nothing buzzing, nothing dropping
Cleanest line I’ve ever seen
I caught a unicorn today
Gonna ride it while it’s here
‘Cause I know this kind of magic
Don’t come ’round but once a year
I won’t pretend it’s always like this
Lord knows tomorrow’s got its teeth
But today the line ran level
And I felt the ground beneath
So I’ll bottle up this good one
Tuck it deep inside my coat
For the nights I’m running ragged
It’s the easy day I’ll quote
I caught a unicorn today
A hundred sittin’ pretty on the screen
Nothing buzzing, nothing dropping
Cleanest line I’ve ever seen
I caught a unicorn today
Gonna ride it while it’s here
‘Cause I know this kind of magic
Don’t come ’round but once a year
Steady now
Sky’s so wide
Caught a unicorn
Easy ride
The house is doing nothing
Just the hum behind the wall
Then the CGM sirens
Say I’m sinking down the hall
I know this ceiling pretty well
I’ve counted every crack
Three a.m. and wide awake
Negotiating my way back
Bare feet on the kitchen tile
Juice box in the dark
I don’t turn the big light on
I just go by the Pixel spark
Graveyard shift again
Nobody clocks me in
This body doesn’t sleep
It just lets the morning win
Graveyard shift again
Same glow on the wall
I’ll be up before the sun
I’ll catch it ‘fore the fall
My mom sleeps with one ear open
Down the hallway, just in case
She says she hears the buzzing
Before it’s on my face
I’ve got Scott in my earbuds,
Juicebox podcast, someone’s voice
Another person wide awake
Who didn’t get a choice
Fifteen carbs and waiting
Watching for the climb
The slowest kind of patience
Is the kind you do at night
Graveyard shift again
Nobody clocks me in
This body doesn’t sleep
It just lets the morning win
Graveyard shift again
Same glow on the wall
I’ll be up before the sun
I’ll catch it ‘fore the fall
There’s a club nobody joins on purpose
We just meet here in the dark
Trading numbers like ghost stories
Every one of us a little marked
And I’d trade it in a heartbeat
For one boring, dreamless night
But the reading’s holding steady
So I’ll take the win — I’m fine
Graveyard shift again
Nobody clocks me in
This body doesn’t sleep
It just lets the morning win
Graveyard shift again
Same glow on the wall
I’ll be up before the sun
I’ll catch it ‘fore the fall
Back to bed
Sun’s not up
Back to bed
That’s enough
I left my meter on the counter
Like a dare from my own brain
That little screen is blinking, honey
Here we go and dance again
Pocket full of sugar dust
And a juice box by the sink
I’m not aloof, I’m just doing math
While everybody else can think
Hands a little shaky
SugarPixel wails
I swear I’m fine, I’m fine
Then the sensor fails
Can I borrow one?
I’m down to my last
Sensor’s reading errors
And the shipment isn’t fast
Can I borrow one?
I’ll give it back, I swear
Soon as insurance ships me mine
I’ll pay you fair and square
I’m rolling down this long highway
Juicebox podcast riding with me
Scott’s got someone on there talking
’Bout a night they didn’t see
How the sensor just gave out on them
Just an error and a beep
And I’m nodding at the windshield
‘Cause that’s the company I keep
Buzzing in my pocket
Numbers in my head
If I wait one minute more
I’ll use that 10 year old lancet instead
Can I borrow one?
I’m down to my last
Sensor’s reading errors
And the shipment isn’t fast
Can I borrow one?
I’ll give it back, I swear
Soon as insurance ships me mine
I’ll pay you fair and square
It’s not a joke, but it’s my joke
If I laugh, I can breathe
I know my body’s doing tax stuff
On every single meal I eat
So save me some gummies
And don’t make it weird
I’m still me when my sugar’s acting up
Just a little more engineered here
Can I borrow one?
I need it fast
SugarPixel’s screaming sensor error
And that one was my last
Can I borrow one?
I’ll give it back, I swear
Soon as insurance ships me mine
I’ll pay you fair and square
Check, sip, breathe
Back to me
Check, sip, breathe
Back to me
Sittin’ in a meetin’, quiet as can be
Boss is goin’ on about the quarter
Tryin’ to look important, noddin’ along
Then my pocket started talkin’
Whole room turned around to look at me
I just stared down at the table
Said don’t mind that, folks, go on ahead
Like I couldn’t hear a thing
The CGM said what? (what)
Right out loud in front of everyone
The CGM said what? (what)
Couldn’t make it stop, couldn’t make it run
I got no secrets left, no place to hide
That little robot voice done broadcast it citywide
Thanks a lot, now everybody knows
The CGM said what?
Took a girl to dinner, tryin’ to impress
Candlelight, the whole nine yards
Leaned in close to say somethin’ smooth
And my CGM beat me to it
She said what on earth was that
I said that’d be my number talkin’
She laughed so hard she nearly fell out the booth
Second date’s on Friday, so I think we’re good
The CGM said what? (what)
Right out loud in front of everyone
The CGM said what? (what)
Couldn’t make it stop, couldn’t make it run
I got no secrets left, no place to hide
That little robot voice done broadcast it citywide
Thanks a lot, now everybody knows
The CGM said what?
Finally got the family on the couch
Movie night, everybody quiet
Lights down low, popcorn ready
Best part of the show comin’ up
Then that robot yelled from my pocket
Said my number to the whole room
Kids all hollered, hey, we heard that
Hey what, (what, what)
Hey what, (what, what)
The CGM said what?
Right out loud in front of everyone
The CGM said what?
Couldn’t make it stop, couldn’t make it run
I got no secrets left, no place to hide
That little robot voice done broadcast it citywide
Thanks a lot, now everybody knows
The CGM said what?
It talks in the library
It talks in the pew
It talks at the dentist
Right mid-cleanin’ too
I made my peace with it a while ago
Ain’t no use to fight
‘Cause that little voice is lookin’ out for me
Even when the timin’s not right
The CGM said what? (what)
Right out loud in front of everyone
The CGM said what? (what)
Couldn’t make it stop, couldn’t make it run
I got no secrets left, no place to hide
That little robot voice done broadcast it citywide
Thanks a lot, now everybody knows
The CGM said what?
And it said it again
On the way out the door
The CGM said what?
Three in the mornin’, dead asleep
Heard a little chirp, then I heard a beep
Sat straight up, looked around the room
Somethin’ in this house was goin’ boom boom boom
Wasn’t the Pixel, wasn’t my arm
Wasn’t my phone, wasn’t a fire alarm
Checked the microwave, checked the door
Still don’t know what it’s beepin’ for
Something’s beepin’
And it isn’t me
Tore apart the kitchen
Can’t find where it could be
Checked the smoke alarm
Checked the CGM
Somethin’ in this house is beepin’
And here we go again
Changed my pod at the mall one day
Tossed the old one in the trash and walked away
Didn’t think a thing, went browsin’ for a while
Til I heard it beepin’ from a country mile
Next thing I know there’s a crowd, there’s a truck
Somebody called it in, now we’re all stuck
Watched a robot roll up to a Coke can and a pod
Sir, that’s insulin, not a bomb
Something’s beepin’
And it isn’t me
Tore apart the kitchen
Can’t find where it could be
Checked the smoke alarm
Checked the CGM
Somethin’ in this house is beepin’
And here we go again
It’s the pump, it’s the sensor
It’s the timer on the stove
It’s the truck outside in reverse
It’s a battery gettin’ old
I have checked this whole dang house
From the ceilin’ to the floor
And I swear on everything
I cannot take it anymore
Something’s beepin’
And it isn’t me
Tore apart the kitchen
Can’t find where it could be
Checked the smoke alarm
Checked the CGM
Somethin’ in this house is beepin’
Wait
Found it
It was me
Sittin’ on the couch, half asleep
Wasn’t even payin’ it mind
Looked up and there it was
A perfect flat line
Set my fork down nice and slow
Backed away from the screen
Told the kid don’t even sneeze
This might be a dream
Shhh, nobody move
Nobody breathe
Just let it ride
We caught the perfect line
Word went quiet through the house
Everybody walkin’ on toes
Even the dog laid down real still
Like somehow he knows
Phone on silent, lights down low
Ain’t nobody makin’ a sound
SugarPixel with that unicorn glow
One perfect number, safe and sound
Don’t text it to the group chat
Don’t let it leave the room
‘Cause the second that you brag about it
It’s gone too soon
Nobody move
Nobody breathe
Just let it ride
We caught the perfect line
And it never stays, it never does
Five good minutes, then it’s gone
Off chasin’ some high or low
But for a little while, we won
Nobody move
Nobody breathe
Just let it ride
We caught the perfect line
Nobody move
Nobody breathe
Just let it ride
We caught the perfect line
Shhh
It was a quiet Tuesday night
Nothin’ special, kitchen light
I glanced over at the Pixel on the shelf
And there you were, all by yourself
One hundred, lookin’ right at me
Flat and calm as you could be
I forgot to breathe, I forgot my name
Knew nothin’ would ever be the same
Oh, one hundred
You were only mine for a minute
Steady and sweet and right
Like you’d always been here
I didn’t get to keep you
But man, you were beautiful
For one perfect minute
You were exactly where I wanted you
I should’ve known you wouldn’t stay
The pretty ones all drift away
I tried to hold the moment still
But a number’s got a mind and a will
By the time I called the kids to see
You were already leavin’ me
A little arrow turnin’ slow
Off to somewhere I couldn’t go
And I’d have given anything
To freeze that little glowin’ screen
But you were never mine to keep
You were just a dream
Oh, one hundred
You were only mine for a minute
Steady and sweet and right
Like you’d always been here
I didn’t get to keep you
But man, you were beautiful
For one perfect minute
You were exactly where I wanted you
Now every night I check the shelf
Half hopin’ you’ll come back yourself
I’ve seen a thousand numbers since
But not a one of them was you
Not a single one was you
Oh, one hundred
You were only mine for a minute
Steady and sweet and right
Like you’d always been here
I didn’t get to keep you
But man, you were beautiful
For one perfect minute
You were exactly where I wanted you
The Pixel’s glowin’ soft tonight
Some other number, some other light
But I’ll be watchin’, just in case
You come back home
Brought you home so small and new
Didn’t come with a guide for you
Learned to count, learned to dose
Learned to watch the numbers close
Set the Pixel by your bed
So I’d see green instead of red
Some nights I just watched it glow
Made sure you were okay, you’ll never know
This one wasn’t luck
This one wasn’t chance
This was every sleepless night
Every second glance
Every carb I counted
Every alarm I beat
This one’s years in the makin’
And this one’s ours to keep
You don’t see the math I do
The quiet worry I carry through
The 3am, the just-in-case
The way I memorized your face
But you’re growin’ brave and strong
Wakin’ to your own alarms
And one day you won’t need me near
But I’ll still be right here
‘Cause we have watched a thousand nights
Turn that little screen to light
And tonight it landed true
One perfect hundred, just for you
This one wasn’t luck
This one wasn’t chance
This was every sleepless night
Every second glance
Every carb we counted
Every alarm we’d beat
This one’s years in the makin’
And this one’s ours to keep
We’d do it all again
The needles and the fear
Every single number
That ever brought us here
‘Cause look at you now, baby
Look at what we made
A perfect little moment
Out of all that we gave
This one wasn’t luck
This one wasn’t chance
This was every sleepless night
Every second glance
Every carb we counted
Every alarm we’d beat
This one’s years in the makin’
And this one’s ours to keep
The night is quiet, calm and green
Best number we’ve ever seen
You’re sound asleep, you’re safe, you’re sound
And this one’s ours to keep
You count the carbs at breakfast, watch the numbers on the screen
Ride the highs and ride the lows, and all the in-between
You figured you were carryin' this heavy on your own
Drinking juice there in the quiet made you feel so all alone
You already had it, the strength was always you
You already had it. Now share with those who need it too
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
Friend, you already had it
Amara had a ship in a bottle and never knew the why
Isla held the kind of brave that learns to close her eyes and fly
A compass leading the way, been pointin' home all the while
Turns out the missing piece of everything was a piece of you yourself
You already had it. Your spark is the piece we need.
You already had it. Now share it with your Friends for Life
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
Friend, you already had it
So when the bridge is fadin' and there's one light left to spend
Don't go it all alone, no — call on your new friends
"Don't look at the gap," Lily said, "you just look at me
Now jump — I've got you" — and that's all you'll ever need
You already had it, the strength was always you
You already had it before you found your crew for life
The brave and the bright, it was yours all along
We'll be Friends for Life forever — we already had it
Yeah, all along
We'll be Friends for Life forever, we already had it
